FOREIGN Secretary and MP for South West Surrey, Jeremy Hunt, caused much amusement this week after mistakenly referring to his Chinese wife Lucia as Japanese during an official visit to China.

He quickly corrected his error calling it a “terrible mistake to make” and later Tweeted: “Rule #1 as a new Foreign Sec: when reflecting in English with the Chinese on a conversation you had with them in Japanese about your Chinese wife, don’t get any of those mixed up! Apologies to the long-suffering Mrs H...!”

The MP subsequently posted pictures of himself picking up presents for Mrs Hunt on his travels, including flowers in Paris and chocolates from Vienna.
