ON Friday people will be trading in their normal office attire for something a bit more causal, as people dig deep in their pockets for the annual fundraising event Jeans for Genes which raises money for Genetic Disorders UK.
In the UK alone genetic disorders are estimated to affect one in 25 children, and there are around 4,000 to 6,000 different types of genetic disorders. They are not all inherited with some going unnoticed at birth, and others becoming more evident in child and adulthood.
To support this cause people will be swapping their everyday clothes for jeans while making a small donation of their choice to the charity- money will go towards new projects and schemes to improve the life of people affected by genetic disorders.
Common types of genetic disorders are Cystic Fibrosis, Huntington’s Disease, Down Syndrome and Blooms Syndrome. Jeans for Genes holds an annual grant programme, which is available to support groups and charities throughout the UK. For more information or to donate go to www.jeansforgenesday.org/.
