AN ELEVEN-bedroom country house in Headley where Fleetwood Mac lived and recorded four albums in their 1970s heyday has gone on the market for £4million.

Built in the late 1800s, Benifold in Headley Hill Road boasts an outdoor swimming pool, tennis court, sauna, seven reception rooms and seven bathrooms, as well as almost seven acres of gardens and grounds.

Fleetwood Mac co-founder Mick Fleetwood and his wife Jenny Boyd, sister-in-law to George Harrison, bought the property in 1970.

And in Fleetwood’s 2015 autobiography, Play On, the musician refers to his love of Benifold and revealed the group recorded four albums during their time there prior to moving to California in 1974 to boost the band’s success.

’Rumours’ have it one of the band’s songs, Thoughts on a Grey Day, was a poem written and supposedly read by an elderly woman, Mrs Scarrott, who lived nearby.

Benifold has come a long way since Fleetwood splashed just £23,000 on it all those decades ago, however, as the current owners have carried out extensive work during their 20 years at the property – including installing a new kitchen, utility room and several new bathrooms. Find it on the Knight Frank website.
