SUMMER holidays may be over but there was still plenty to look forward to at Hollycombe Steam Museum last weekend, which staged its big-scale annual model event. Among the 36 models were an indoor display on a variety of themes, including fairgrounds, with one built from Meccano, a Chipperfield's Circus and Portsmouth Dockyard, railway layouts, and even a knitted village (above). Outdoors was a selection of miniature steamies, including a range of Burrell, Durham and Foster engines as well as Hollycombe's large attractions, including the steam railway, Big Wheel, Razzle Dazzle and steam boats. Trustee Brian Gooding said: "The volunteers at Hollycombe really enjoy September. We move into autumn with Fairground at Night, when Hollycombe is alive with sound, colour and steam. "We love to see the reaction on people's faces when they discover us for the first time, as for many it's a wonderful nostalgic look back at times past."
