A MEMBER at the Grayshott Spa is hoping her call to action will prompt other members to support her bid to stave off its closure in December.

Headley Down resident Anna Lubelska has been a member of the spa for nearly ten years, and hopes to recruit supporters of the spa to keep it running.

She said: “Local members and regular visitors are saddened by the news of the permanent closure.

“Our hearts go out to all the wonderful staff who have looked after us all over the years. It really was a special place, with so much fascinating history.

“I loved hearing the tales of a young Roger Moore and having drinks parties at the pool and later actually apologising to the owners for his bad behaviour. Lots of famous people came to stay and we had to be discrete. One of my favourites was Michael Parkinson, who enjoyed a good chat.”

Anna’s appeal comes after an email from general manager Sheila McCann informing members of the spa’s closure in December.

She said: “With no end in sight, the owners have decided it is no longer a viable business and they have decided to close with immediate effect.

“The shareholders are reviewing and weighing all the options going forward. However, Grayshott Spa will cease trading effective December 6.

“We are proud of the work we have done and knowledge we have shared. We thank you sincerely for your patience, trust, confidence and loyal patronage over the decades.

“The Grayshott team were always inspired to know they helped many and that Grayshott was held as a special place for our members, even as the old building was not aging gracefully.”

In reaction to the news, Craig McGowan, president of the Haslemere and District Chamber of Trade and Commerce said: “We’re very sorry to hear about the closure of Grayshott Spa.

“There is no doubt 2020 will be remembered as the most difficult year to operate a business in recent memory.

“Covid restrictions, while necessary, are having a significant impact on many otherwise viable businesses.

“Wherever possible, we’d encourage people to support local shops and services so that we can look to a brighter post-Coved future.”
