THE closure of Midhurst Road at the junction with Haslemere Road caused traffic chaos in Liphook last week.
While urgent gas repair works were being carried out by British Gas over the two-day closure on Thursday and Friday, motorists were diverted via Portsmouth Road and Station Road, creating long queues of traffic and congestion.
One man, who did not wish to be named, said: “The Midhurst Road closure caused massive problems for motorists during the rush hour and school runs.
“It was not very well signposted and both Station Road and Portsmouth Road became bottlenecks with commuter cars parked along one side and heavy delivery trucks having to negotiate tight corners. These roads should have been coned off to keep them clear for all traffic coming through.
“This again highlights the volume of traffic going through the centre of the village every day and the lack of any forward planning to ease the problems.
“It is a taste of things to come.”
