THIS week’s Canada Day celebrations in Bramshott and Liphook will be particularly poignant because of the forest fires that devastated parts of the North American country.

East Hampshire district councillors and parish councillors have launched an appeal to help those affected by the disaster at Fort McMurray, in Alberta.

It is hoped a generous donation will be give to Colonel Rory Radford, the representative of the Canadian High Commission, who will be guest of honour at the commemoration day on Wednesday.

To make donations by cash or cheque (made out to the parish council) call in at its Midhurst Road office, or make them payable to the Canadian Red Cross.
