AFTER the successful adoption of Milland phone box, people in Passfield launched a petition to save the kiosk located outside Passfield Stores.

Dr John Carne said: "We collected more than 150 supporting signatures in less than two weeks and after a presentation to Bramshott and Liphook parish council, which will adopt the kiosk, we can now make refurbishment plans.

"The Passfield Picnic committee will fund repainting the phone box to keep it merely as a heritage symbol and as part of the Diamond Jubilee celebrations."

The kiosk has been a distinctive feature and landmark of Passfield for more than 80 years.

BT launched its Adopt a Kiosk scheme to support the Community Heartbeat Trust and the Defib Centre, which has placed defibrillators in adopted kiosks.

Local authorities can purchase kiosks from BT for £1, thereby protecting the heritage of the community. BT removes telephone equipment before transferring ownership to local authorities, which are responsible for their maintence and upkeep.
