The talented youngsters at Farnham Dance have handed over a cheque for more than £3,300 to Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice after totting up the proceeds of their biannual charity summer show.

After a few years of Covid cancellations, the dance school came back with gusto at Frensham Heights’ Aldridge Theatre in July, putting together a Hollywood-themed show that included dances to songs from West Side Story, Mack and Mabel, and a few Disney classics.

The second act saw a ‘Sea Ballet’ compilation of mermaids, seahorses, jellyfish and manta rays dancing together. Dancers from ages two-and-a-half to 19 years took to the stage to show off dance styles including ballet, tap and modern dance.

Even the audience members channelled their inner Dancing Queen with a finale to Mamma Mia that got the audience up on their feet.

Elizabeth Carter, who recently took over as principal from former owner Fiona Barnard, is “very proud” of everyone involved.

She said: “With a huge team effort, we were able to raise £3,380 for Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice, a charity very close to the dance school’s heart.”

Farnham Dance is welcoming new students this autumn term, no experience necessary and all abilities welcome. It has an adult ballet class too.
