THE JOYOUS mass gatherings of cyclists seen annually in Castle Street in recent years may still be some way off – but those pining for the return of the Farnham Charity Bike Ride will still be able to take on their favourite routes next month.

Over the weekend of July 4-5, ride organisers will mark out the 16-mile and the 25-mile routes with the usual arrows and signs, beginning in Farnham town centre and continuing up Crondall Lane into the Surrey and Hampshire countryside.

The charity ride team are, though, keen to stress riders will not be supported by marshals or rest stations along the way, and there will be no defined start or finish.

“You will be undertaking this activity at your own risk, and will need to ensure you follow the social distancing guidelines in place on the day,” they added in a statement.

The cancellation of this year’s ride proper has left a significant hole in the coffers of its main beneficiaries – St Andrew’s School, whose PTA launched the first ride in 2009, and Farnham Round Table.

Although there is no obligation, donations large or small would be greatly appreciated, to be split 50-50 between St Andrew’s and the Round Table.

The routes have already been mapped out on Strava, and will also be made available via Google Maps. Check out the details, including how to donate, online at www.farnhambikeride.org.uk
