Patrick Burridge has resigned as leader of East Hampshire District Council.
The 52-year-old who has been diagnosed with Parkinson's Disease, will remain as member for Alton's Downland ward, but he is standing down from Cabinet.
Mr Burridge says the stress of his work as leader has caused an acceleration of his condition. But his decision to quit was made with "a heavy heart".
