THANKS to 22 mums completing the challenge of a lifetime, Chiddingfold’s St Mary’s Primary School presented Young Minds mental health charity with a cheque for £8,000.

Fundraising for the school Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), they took on the national Thee Peak Challenge in the summer and triumphed, conquering Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowden in one continuous attempt.

Emma Hitchcock said: “We smashed the challenge in the 24 hours thanks to the hard work and commitment from these dedicated mothers.”

Their marathon achievement raised £16,000 in total and the remaining £8,000 will fund an outdoor classroom for the school.

Young Minds community fundraising officer Julia Garden attended St Mary’s weekly celebration assembly to receive the donation.

She also spoke to the children about the role Young Minds play in supporting children and families with mental health issues.

Earlier this year, Young Minds revealed more than a third or 36 per cent of 16 to 25-year-olds in Britain have self-harmed at some point in their lives, according to a new survey commissioned in partnership with Self-Harm UK and The Mix.
