SKILLED young musicians helped drum up interest online in a leading company’s new percussion products.
Drum teacher Matt Dean, who has a studio in Beacon Hill, was contacted by major outdoor intrument maker Percussion Play, which produces xylophones, drums, marimbas and even giant floor pianos to public and private spaces sites around the world, to help with video promotions for a new range.
Mr Dean said: “They had commissioned several scores written by well-known TV composer, Matthew Slater, but they needed expert young drummers to demonstrate how the instruments would be used, and who could actually perform the parts.
“I was able to offer the opportunity to my keen drum students, who were invited down to the instrument factory, where a Hollywood-style green screen studio was set up.
“Here they performed the pieces in settings then superimposed into glamorous places such as LA’s Venice Beach.
“I’m always keen to get my students involved with performance opportunities and this was a really rare and fun musical experience that they will always remember.”
Last year, Percussion Play installed Forte Forest, an outdoor musical and sensory area, at Treloar’s disabled school and college in Alton.
The musical instruments were carefully selected to encourage interaction, bringing benefits for both motor skills and physiotherapy programmes.
Mainstream schools are also encouraged to stop by when they visit to make music alongside Treloar’s students and have fun while learning learn more about disability and inclusion.
Further afield, the company installed outdoor musical chimes in a Danish city street to celebrate the great Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s 150th birthday. Passers by regardless of musical ability can play one of Nielsen’s most popular songs, thanks to 26 aluminium chimes, which play the melody.
