BOHUNT School hosted another successful ‘Heroes Day,’ designed to present opportunities to students to widen their horizons after leaving school.
Representatives from nine organisations were invited, each providing insight into an area of professional ‘heroic’ work.
They ranged from investigating a crime scene with the Royal Military Police, virtual reality welding with the Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (REME), working with teams from the Army Air Corps and infantry, the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance, ex-alcoholics and former drug addicts, as well as team building with the Military Preparation College and an audience with some Chelsea Pensioners.
Headteacher Neil Strowger told The Herald: “Heroes Day is a fantastic opportunity for our students to find out about a variety of careers.
“They learn an enormous amount from hands-on, powerful demonstrations from the local services. This annual event is a real highlight of the school year.
“We are proud of all the students who took part and hope it has inspired them for the future.”
Ginny Green, Bohunt’s head of events and careers added: “This year, as every year, Heroes Day has been a tremendous success.
“Our aim is to provide students with the best possible experience and understanding of all types of people who may constitute a hero, from frontline forces to ex-drug addicts who have overcome their addiction.
“Every guest provides a unique experience for our students to engage with over the course of the day, and we know from feedback from our amazing visitors that they thoroughly enjoyed the day, found our students to be respectful, willing and motivated and have already committed to attending next year.”
