SHOWING solidarity with LGBT+ people around the world, East Hampshire District Council is flying their rainbow flag above its Penns Place offices in Petersfield throughout February to mark LGBT+ History Month.

It aims to promote equality and diversity, raise awareness of LGBT+ history and encourage education in LGBT+ issues to stamp out prejudice.

Council leader Cllr Richard Millard said: “This year’s theme is ‘Politics in Art, the Arc is Long’ and as an organisation we have come a long way in the progress made towards equality.

“By flying the flag throughout February, it will be a daily reminder of how far we have come, and what still needs to be done to ensure we are inclusive of everyone in our community.

“During this month we will be helping to raise awareness of matters which affect the LGBT+ community, and celebrate the lives and history of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people.”

The Rainbow Flag, adopted in 1978, was designed as a symbol of hope and liberation. For more information visit https://lgbtplushistorymonth.co.uk/
