HELICAL Bar has appealed against the refusal of planning permission for a further 40 cottages and a 64-bed care home at Bramshott Place Village. The appeal hearing will be held in January. Last December, East Hampshire District Council's planning committee turned down the proposed development for the over 55s to the east of the existing site, at the former King George Hospital site. It would require access from Hewshott Lane, and include an extension and alterations to the Bramshott Place Village clubhouse. During last week's parish council planning meeting, councillors again strongly objected to the application on the same grounds as before. They include the fact that the site is currently agricultural farmland and outside the settlement boundary. They claimed the application does not meet local housing needs and the proposed care home would be a large building, out of keeping with the area. For full story, see this week's Liphook Herald.
