A BUMPER sweetcorn crop at Secretts pick-your-own farm, in Milford, inspired a three-day festival over the weekend.

Not only could families tuck into a themed ice cream specially created by Ben Govier, who owns Haslemere-based Dylan’s Mik Barn, but they also sampled exotic drinks served up by Lost Lio’s mobile cocktail bar, in addition to tucking into hot dogs with roasted corn straight from the fields.

TJ’s laid on a host of outdoor children’s activities at Hurst Farm, including barrel train rides and a mini-water park. Families could also take tractor rides into the pick-your-own fields to collect their own corn on the cobs to take back home.

Event organiser Nicola Secrett said: “This was our second sweetcorn festival and it went very well – even better than last year.

“We were glad to have Dylan’s Ice Cream’s support and visitors said the sweetcorn ice cream was surprisingly good. Aron from Lost Lio also designed cocktails to complement the festival.

“We wanted to make it as educational as possible and children could take tractor rides out to the fields to see mint and lovage, and also to dig their own carrots and beetroot. We’ve had a brilliant sweetcorn crop this year.

“We sell most of the crop straight to wholesalers in London – the fresher it is the sweeter it is.

“I’d like to thank all the farmworkers for their help, in particular farm manager Nigel Layton.

“Clare Dowden and Dawn Stewart were the chefs and Nicki Hill and Emily Hijak did the biscuit decorating,” Nicola added.
