MEMBERS of the Millennium Centre management committee discussed the “opt to tax” position during their last meeting, raising concerns about increased fees charged to some customers and whether VAT should be added to their bills.

The centre on Canada Way, Liphook, currently does not breach the £7,500 deminimis limit, but was in danger of doing so if planned large-scale maintenance was to be carried out.

Since some of the projects are now being scaled down, the council will need to re-evaluate through the parish council’s finance and policy committee whether it should continue current arrangements of “opt to tax”.

The parish council is registered for VAT because it undertakes traded activity and not because it met the VAT threshold.

Chairman Jane Ives requested the Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council’s finance and policy committee should review the decision to “Opt to Tax” at their next meeting on March 16.
