A COUNCIL chairman is taking legal action after "false and defamatory" allegations were made against him.

Nigel Newman, 59, who was elected to Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council in 2006, announced he was stepping down as chairman and as a member of the council's committees last week while he pursues the claims.
