PUPILS at Churcher's College Junior School invited a speaker from Childline, to talk to pupils at an assembly, last term.

Mandy Elton explained how the helpline, made famous in the 1980s by TV consumer champion Esther Rantzen, worked – and how many children did not have all they needed in terms of financial and emotional support.

Children at the Liphook school were moved by the story of a young boy whose mother was unable to provide for him and were keen to help Childline in their work.

Pupils – supported by teacher Paula Clemmens – organised a sponsored Big Work Out and children participated in activities in their lunchtime, raising £3,734.28.

Mandy said: "I really enjoyed working with the school and was thrilled Childline was chosen as their charity to support.

"The amount they have raised far exceeded our expectations and shows just how passionate children in the school are about helping others who need our services. The whole school can be very proud of their effort."
