FOLLOWING the success of this summer’s Liphook Village Sports Day, clubs which participated are keen for a repeat next year.
Members of Bramshott and Liphook Parish Council’s recreation committee and its sports representative, Tony Rudgard, this week discussed the positive feedback they have received.
They are looking at holding an even bigger event for 2016, to be held during the first week in July, with the possibility of it becoming an annual event.
Jane Ives, who was instrumental in helping to organise this year’s inaugural event, said: “The purpose of the day was to promote sport and encourage fitness which the organising team felt they have achieved. Some of the participants also expressed their pleasure in finding sports facilities that they did not know existed.
“The most popular sports on the day were golf, tennis, gymnastics, table tennis and badminton with people of all ages having a go.
“A total of 12 sports clubs took part, all of them offering their time and facilities, taster sessions, tuition and tips for free with a view to attract new members. Many were delighted to sign up new members on the day and many other participants expressed an interest to join at a later date.
“Liphook Tennis Club said they have never had as many visitors in one day and were keen the event is run again to coincide with their annual open day.
“We have also received interest from a tchoukball club who would very much like to participate in a future event and we have considered including other sports, such as cricket, archery and a larger choice of athletics.”
The day was held at Bohunt Centre, the Recreation Ground, the Millennium Centre, Old Thorns Manor Hotel, and Liphook Golf Club.
