THE OWNER of Caffe Piccolo has given his thanks to the community after a huge fire destroyed his restaurant.

Darius Ahmadi has run the establishment for more than 26 years, but last Wednesday a fire destroyed the property.

Mr Ahmadi confirmed the fire brigade believes the blaze was caused by a faulty washer and dryer.

But in the week following the incident, he has seen an outpouring of support from the public – with some offering to help with a general clean-up, and many donating to a JustGiving page launched by customer Holly Wilson.

“I have to fight until the last drop of my blood to put this place back in whatever way I can,” said Mr Ahmadi.

“This year has been very difficult for everyone, and for them customers to come up with these ideas – it makes me feel like I’m blessed really, because everyone is showing support by calling, texting and telling me they would do whatever they can.”

So far, the JustGiving page has raised nearly £2,000, with a target of £10,000.

Mr Ahmadi said: “I have felt loved by our community.

“I have been here for many years and now I’m in trouble, they are not letting me down.

“They are supporting me and are willing to go the extra mile wherever they can, and that’s a blessing. It is a devastating situation, but to see that much support is amazing.

“We don’t know how long it’s going to take, but I am not a quitter. And having this much love behind me, I am going to come back better, stronger.”
