THE Buy in Grayshott group (BiG), formed nearly 20 years ago to promote the village to a wider audience, was quietly suspended until further notice some two weeks ago.

The decision to wind BiG down was taken by “the majority of those very few” who attended what turned out to be its last meeting in its present form, on March 15.

Chairman Mani Rai owner of The Ghurkha Durbar Nepaleses restaurant in the village, and all but one of the committee members have stepped down, leaving vice-chairman Ian Gough, of Keats estate agents, to oversee the completion of two outstanding initiatives.

BiG will hand over the Christmas lights to Grayshott Illumination Group and the Grayshott in Bloom annual hanging baskets scheme will be managed by the parish council from now on.

BiG secretary Sam Hughes said: “It was felt by the majority of those very few who attended, that BiG in its current format had reached a natural conclusion, and the vacuum created by its suspension would bring forward perhaps new groups keen to benefit and promote all the many wonderful attributes of Grayshott - retail, businesses and the extensive not-for-profit-organisations that enrich our community,”

While it was decided BiG in its present form had had its day, there could be a re-grouping if the village felt it was needed, to take greater advantage of social media.

Both the committee and BiG members agreed a new positioning was needed if it returned, because much of its original remit was now well covered on the village website, grayshott.com.
