The Botanist could be the latest bar and restaurant to depart Farnham town centre after the chain “tentatively” put its premises in The Borough up for sale.

The leasehold of the 5,000 square foot bar and restaurant is being marketed by London-based agents AG&G for a guide price of £50,000. The lease expires in 2040 at a rent of £90,000 per annum.

Its advert talks up the “attractive bar/restaurant in an affluent Surrey town”, in a “prime location with high footfall”, “fully fitted to a high standard” and with a licence to open daily until 12.30am.

The restaurant can serve 100-plus covers, AG&G adds.

If The Botanist does depart Farnham, it will follow hot on the heels of another restaurant, Bloom, which closed in October.

However, The Botanist has denied its departure from Farnham is imminent.

A spokesman for the chain said: “We have explored the possibility of tentatively positioning a small number of sites for sale, as it is sensible for any operator of our scale to regularly assess its portfolio.

“At this point, it is by no means certain that any of these sites will be sold, and we intend to continue trading all sites as normal for the time being.”
