Men enjoyed a chocolate treat on Sunday after staff at Tesco in Bordon donated 30 boxes of Matchmakers to The Federation of Liss Schools.
Each year the federation marks Father’s Day by creating a wrapping room full of gifts – this time including the Matchmakers – that pupils can buy for a “special male figure” in their life, whether they are a father, brother, grandfather or uncle.
The chosen item is hand-wrapped with the help of a volunteer parent while the children make and write a label before giving the gift on Father’s Day.
All funds raised by the wrapping room are invested back into the schools to benefit pupils.
Katie Kempster, co-chair of the Families of Liss Schools PTA, said: “We’re very grateful to Tesco for this generous donation. The Father’s Day wrapping room is a really lovely event, and the children love nothing more than picking a gift and using their money to pay for a present for a loved one.
“As a PTA, our main goal is to raise money that we can reinvest back into the school for our children. Our current goal is to raise money for a replacement minibus to enable off-site trips and activities for the children to enjoy.
“Our wrapping room events historically raise between £300 and £400. In order to do that, we look to the community for donations of items that we can then offer for sale, so these Matchmakers from Tesco really have made a difference to the special male figures in the children’s lives, as well as the schools.”
The federation, formed in September 2018, comprises an infant school and a junior school on the same site, sharing a governing body and executive headteacher Jilly Myers.
Tesco fresh food manager Katy Gardner said: “When we heard about their wrapping room, we wanted to be involved. It’s a brilliant initiative that celebrates the positive male role models in the children’s lives, as well as helping to put finances into the schools.”
