OAKMOOR School has produced and donated 260 items of vital personal protection equipment (PPE) to the NHS and care workers in recent weeks.

Mike and Katie Hale, both teachers in the Bordon secondary’s technology department, gave up part of their Easter holiday to use the school facilities to produce face shields and ear protectors.

Of these, 69 shields have been supplied to St Helier Hospital maternity ward, given to Sue Taylor who trained as a nurse with Mrs Hale’s late mother more than 40 years ago, along with 50 NHS key rings and 120 ear defenders.

Twenty-one were delivered to Lovedean Home Care, 30 to The Vine Medical Practice, 30 to Clanfield surgery for its community care team, and 21 to a parent to be used at a local care home.

Nine were delivered to district nurses in Waterlooville, and 60 face shields and ear defenders were passed via Adam Beere, assistant headteacher, to be used for services at Frimley Park Hospital and other care homes.

More have been made and any Oakmoor parents and carers who are key workers can contact the school to arrange collection if they require PPE for their work.

Headteacher Paul Hemmings said: “I am so pleased we have been able to able to support our colleagues in the NHS and local care homes. I am confident I speak for the entire Oakmoor School community in stating our absolute gratitude for everything they are doing to help us, care for us and save lives.”

Mike Hale, head of design and technology, added: “We feel honoured to be able to help those on the front line and will continue to use the new technology available at Oakmoor School to make these available for those in need.”
