A FIELD of 490 runners lined up at the gates of Treloar College in Holybourne on Sunday for the 33rd Alton Ten road race.

In blazing sunshine and with temperatures just about nudging 80F, the runners headed out on a challenging, undulating course which took them through the village and up the hill to Binsted, carrying on to The Jolly Farmer pub before turning onto the Blacknest Road, past Bentley station, and back via Isington and Binsted to finish at Eggar’s School.

First man home was Chichester’s James Baker, with Erica Fogg of New Forest Runners taking the ladies title in what is a Hampshire Road Race League event.
