HENRY Blofeld, aka ‘Blowers’, the retired cricket commentator, blew in to The Haslemere Bookshop last week to sign copies of his new book Over and Out.

The book gives a behind-the-scenes glimpse of the BBC radio programme Test Match Special.

Blowers was a popular visitor to the shop even though he was held up and arrived in a hurry that would have shamed the fastest West Indian quick bowlers, who traditionally have had some of the slowest over rates in world cricket.

“There were plenty of books signed and there were queues all round the shop,” said shop manager Sue Adsett.

“Henry Blofeld was happy to stay and talk for as long as people wanted,” said shop manager Sue Adsett. “He was like a favourite uncle.”
