BRAMSHOTT and Liphook Parish Council has announced another casual vacancy this week after Scott Gavin ceased to be a councillor as a result of non-attendance at meetings since he was elected back in April.
Mr Gavin was recruited by the parish council as its property and grounds manager in 2014, taking responsibility for the Millennium Centre, in Ontario Way.
But after losing his job in April 2015, he decided to stand as a parish councillor although an argument raged over whether he was eligible to stand at the time.
Statutory notices have been posted notifying the community and the district council’s returning officer of the vacancy.
A by-election to fill the vacancy will be held if, within 14 days of the notice, 10 electors from the parish give notice in writing claiming an election to the returning officer at East Hampshire District Council.
If no such notice is given, the parish council will fill the vacancy by co-option. The 14-day period excludes a Saturday or Sunday. The address for the returning officer is East Hampshire District Council, Penns Place, Petersfield GU31 4EX.
