THIS week saw the return of the Farnham Lions’ annual Christmas Food Parcel appeal.

A selection of roads in five areas of the town received yellow Lions bags through their door, asking people to donate food that was then distributed to those who are less fortunate in our community.

The bags were collected on Sunday, and then sorted at the Farnham Reserve Centre which generously offered its drill hall as the project had outgrown last year’s venue thanks to the wonderful generosity of residents.

With 12 cars crammed full of donations, the food was sorted by an army of volunteers with more than 600 very full bags of food distributed to local schools, churches and other groups that helped identify the people in need in the area.

Farnham Lions vice-president and chairperson of the project, Mandy Main, said: "The amazing generously of our community never ceases to amaze the club, from all the residents who bought food, to more than 45 volunteers for giving up their valuable time to collect, sort and distribute the food and to the Reserve Centre for letting us use their hall.

"At this time of year, we want to let all members of our community feel the town is there for each other and this project is just one small way we can do this."

The members of Farnham Lions thanked the community for its support throughout the year - with special thanks to all those who supported the food parcel project.
