Alton Morris held its traditional New Year’s Day dancing display in Market Square.

The dancers were joined by other local sides Knickerbocker Glory, Mayflower Morris and Minden Rose, who performed in their own special styles, accompanied by lively music, to a large and appreciative audience.

Alton Morris encourages its new dancers who join in October to take part if they can, and this year was no exception as four new dancers joined the side.

New recruit and Alton resident Irene said: “It was so much fun to dance with such a welcoming group of people.

“My heart is still pumping fast with all the excitement and stage fright from performing in front of a live audience for the first time!”

The absence of kit on some new members was because tattered jackets take ten hours to make and bowler hats are not easy to come by.
