ALTON Lions Club and supporters have presented a new commemorative bench to the town at Anstey Park.

Described as “a real statement piece”, crafted by local woodcarving artist Jonathan Cleaver, the large oak bench has a carved lion on one end and a lioness and cubs on the other.

An inscription on the back reads “Dedicated to all past members of Alton Lions Club”.

Installed in a prominent place near the car park in Anstey Park, the bench was officially handed over to Alton Town Council on Remembrance Day during a short ribbon-cutting ceremony presided over by Alton Town Mayor Cllr Pam Jones and Alton Lions president Atul Patel.

The mayor thanked the Lions for all they had done for the town over many years, and also for “the beautiful new bench”.

Mr Patel thanked the mayor for her attendance and appreciation.
