A TRUCK fire closed the A31 at Bishops Sutton, near Ropley, last Friday.

Said to have broken out in the cab of the articulated lorry, the fire spread quickly to engulf the vehicle, causing severe damage to both cab and trailer. The driver mild smoke inhalation.

A spokesman for Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service said that four crews from Alton, Alresford and Winchester were called out at 3.10pm. The fire was put out a couple of hours later but the road remained closed overnight for resurfacing work.
