A FEMALE motorist had to be cut out of her car and was treated for serious leg injuries after hitting a road sign just after 5am today on the A3 northbound at Thursley.

The 41-year-old driver’s yellow Fiat 500 hit the central reservation and spun back across the carriageway where it hit a signpost.

The driver, who was trapped inside her car for two hours, was taken to St George’s Hospital in Tooting with "serious but non-life threatening" injuries.

Haslemere, Liphook, Godalming and Farnham fire crews were called to the scene at 5.15am. Northbound lanes through Hindhead Tunnel were closed to allow emergency services access.

A single lane re-opened after 8am and the A3 northbound re-opened fully around 10am.
