THE first ‘McMillfest’ attracted hundreds of revellers to its new venue at Milland’s Sports Ground, on Fernhurst Road, who enjoyed basking in glorious sunshine

They listened to great live music all day hosted by Alex and Phil, who put on an epic two-and-a-half-hour show supported by Levi, Those Restless Knights, Rehab and Sour Kix.

There was a choice of four bars, five food stalls, including a hog roast, barbecue and pizzas as well as sports and games for the children.

The popular family friendly festival enjoyed a welcome relaunch, after taking a year off.

Rising Sun pub landlord Ben Burston told The Herald: “This year’s event was a joint venture between the Rising Sun and Milland Sports Club in conjunction with Macmillan Cancer Support, and a new team providing the stage, light and sound.

“The new venue is in such a beautiful setting, the atmosphere was so chilled out and of course the weather was perfect.

“We were really pleased with the large turn out – it would have been impossible to accommodate all the people who came along in the pub’s back garden.

“The field at Milland Sports Club was a much better option – everyone could spread out, have room to dance in front of the stage and get their drinks and food hassle free.

“It was still a free event but for the first time, we decided to introduce tokens instead of cash, which worked out much better all round and we also hope that we have managed to raise plenty of money for MacMillan Cancer with the event.

“Thanks to everyone who volunteered, provided kit at a discount and to all those that came along. We will be back next year.”

Ben said he had become the victim of his own success, after the festival at the pub became too popular, attracting large crowds of young people who came from the three surrounding counties up until his last event in 2016.
