A TRIO of residents have joined forces to launch the Haslemere Angels group, in a bid to curb anti-social behaviour in the town.

Caz Perry, Niels Larsen and Suzie Crebbin have acted as leaders for the group – which has garnered the support of more than 150 people, who have joined the group’s Facebook page.

In a statement to members on the group’s page, Caz said: “Haslemere Angels has been created for the sole purpose of getting everyone in contact with each other regarding recent vandalism, thefts, assaults, burglaries, drug use, littering and verbal abuse that’s been happening around Haslemere and wider.”

Speaking to the Herald about the initiative, Caz said: “If anything happens then people can come to me and I’ll make a note of the situation and report it to the police, if they don’t feel comfortable doing it themselves.

“It is not about targeting anyone in particular – but it is groups of kids that are causing trouble.

“They are vandalising cars, throwing eggs at people’s houses, sitting in the park smoking weed, abusing the elderly as they walk past with their dogs – I mean, I could give a ton of stuff.

“The fact there is a lot of drugs in Haslemere does not help the situation, either.”

However, Caz recognised that while it is mostly young people taking part in anti-social behaviours, there is a lack of activities in the town to keep them occupied.

“They are so bored, they just need something to do,” she said.

“I have spoken to a friend of mine who is a fitness coach and is willing to run Saturday clubs down at Lion Green with football and fitness, just to keep them off the streets.”

Caz said she had witnessed anti-social behaviour when she had to pick up her daughter.

She said: “My daughter and her boyfriend were assaulted by three kids on bikes and I had to go and pick her up – then my car was smashed with a brick.”

Reports of anti-social behaviour in Haslemere has risen over the past few months, with five reports in January, rising to 16 in June (www.police.uk/pu/your-area)

The Haslemere Angels aim to speak with those they see committing anti-social behaviour and other crimes, while keeping in touch with Surrey Police.

The group have been meeting at The Station House, Haslemere to discuss plans and progress being made among the team.

Discussions on the page have seen many people urging for more activities for younger people to do in the area.
