Surrey Police has shed light on the cause of an incident at Farnham's Christmas lights switch-on earlier this month.

The Waverley neighbourhood team released the image of a man officers would like to speak to after the festive event in Gostrey Meadow on Saturday, November 18.

Officers did not initially reveal the nature of the incident, and withdrew the image just days later after the man was identified.

No further information was given, until today.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: "Officers conducted an investigation after a concern for the welfare of a child seen at the Christmas event at Gostrey Meadows in Farnham last Saturday.

"The child’s family has now been spoken to and it’s been confirmed the child is safe and well. We are no longer looking into this and want to thank everyone who shared information with us."

It came as thousands of people, many with young children, gathered between 4.15pm and 4.30pm in Gostrey Meadow to celebrate the official start of the festive season in Farnham.
