SHOPPERS scrambled for safety after a caravan from an unauthorised encampment was engulfed in flames in a supermarket car park.
Police were called to reports of the encampment at Sainsbury’s in Water Lane, Farnham, at around 4.40pm last Saturday .
And shortly after arriving, at 6.05pm, they had to evacuate the site when a caravan caught fire.
Fire crews from Farnham and Rushmoor dealt with the blaze, which was put out within an hour.
The incident closed the store for 45 minutes. All caravans and vehicles have since left the site.
The same caravans had reportedly earlier set up an unauthorised encampment on Thursday last week at The Forest Inn on the A325 Bordon Road.
